The terrorist group Alpha 66 has in California a large record of activities, clandestine and official, investigators of terrorism against Cuba confirm.

The archives point out how René Cruz Cruz — a personal friend and close collaborator of Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez, the current chief of Alpha 66 – is known by North American authorities in California, because he was detained, together with his son, who has the same name, on December 16, 1995, when a cache of unregistered arms were taken, which were destined to be used in violent acts.

According to Cuban investigator, José Luis Méndez, the affiliation of Cruz Cruz with Alpha 66 goes back to the decade of the 70’s, when he was in jail in Cuba because of terrorist activities that he carried out for that Miami organization. Cruz Cruz maintains close relations with Miguel Telleda, official representative of that terrorist group in California

Another two members of Alpha 66, and partners of its current chief, are Eusebio de Jesús Peñalver Mazorra and Angel Francisco D'fana Serrano, were arrested a few days ago in California for possession of arms.

Before that, in Cuba, Peñalver had joined, on the second of August of 1960, the gang of Sinesio Walsh Rios. He was arrested on the sixth of October of the same year. He was tried for his acts and sanctioned to a few years in prison. He was pardoned and he left for the United States.

Peñalver Mazorra and Cruz Cruz were two of the fervent followers of ringleader Luis Posada Carriles in Panama, being present during the hearings and trials, together with Reynold Rodríguez.

In relation to the presence of Alpha 66 in California, we need to remember also that on the eleventh of October of 1993, Mexican citizen José Marcelo García Rubalcava was detained at Havana’s International Airport, because he carried with him two grenades in a North American passenger airplane, to introduce them into Cuba.

Also, during the trial in Havana against Guatemalans that were captured when they tried to place bombs in hotels, it was brought out their operational connections with Cruz Cruz.

Another of the Californian accomplices of Posada Carriles, according to investigator Méndez, is Jorge “Guiro” Barrego Amat, who, in 1963, joined groups that the CIA trained in Fort Benning, where he met Luis Posada Carriles. He has been active in the delegation from Los Angeles, California, and in the Cuban American National Foundation, which financed Posada, according to his own testimony to The New York Times.

Ernesto Abreu, from Panama to Fort Pierce

In Miami, a few days ago, individuals and groups tied to the same web of extremists that spoke out then in California, have expressed their support for Santiago Alvarez -- an accomplice of Posada Carriles -- who faces charges for illegal possession of arms

Alvarez will appear before a court in Fort Pierce, Florida on the eighth of May.

[Note: This is an error in the original article. Santiago Alvarez is facing charges in Fort Lauderdale, not in Fort Pierce]

Ernesto Abreu, President of the Cuban Patriotic Council, which is affiliated with Alpha 66, publicly announced that he was going then to take one hundred persons to the court, in the course of an operation of intimidation.

The organization Mambisa Vigil, of Miguel Saavedra, and Cuban Political Prisoners, also identified with the terrorist delinquency, announced their participation in the maneuver.

Erensto Abreu is the son of Ernestino Abreu, who was captured after arriving in Cuba from Miami in May of 1998, nine days after he came ashore in a beach in the north of Pinar del Rio province. The authorities found him possessing some arms and counterfeit Cuban convertible pesos, in a house in Minas de Matahambre, where he was residing.

That expedition was entirely financed by an intimate friend of Ernestino Abreu, the terrorist Orlando Bosch, and his so-called Popular Protagonist Party. Even more: before it took place, the operation had another member, Fausto Marimón, assassinated by two Alpha 66 thugs on Tuesday, June 30, 1198, when they were leaving El Brindi, on S.W. 17th Avenue.

The illegal arrival of Posada is by that same troop

Abreu, the son, is officially the owner of the shrimp ship Santrina, 88 feet in length and with federal registry, which took part in a highly illegal operation …

Santrina, acquired from a New Orleans fisherman, travels under the cover of the “Foundation for the Protection of the Caribean Marine ecology”, created in the year 2001.

Never Abreu or his accomplices have been formally accused in relation to that grave crime that the government of the United States has just acknowledged.

Erensto Abreu was also present in Panamá, with Peñalver and Cruz in the proper trial of Luis Posada Carriles, where the terrorist Reinold Rodríguez, while he acted as the confidant of the old ringleader.

Later Abreu carried a suitcase and commented, in public, that he was the manager of the capos Nelsy Castro Matos and Santiago Alvarez of Miami. The last one stopped being present in Panamá because he was afraid of a report against him before Interpol, due to the help he offered to Posada in that plot.
